military prowess was on full

display at the 63rd Republic

Day parade on Thursday

The early morning chill did not

One of the two most successful

secret ops "known" of the last

decade did not happen during

any republican rule.

Today this blog reports on the

second successful such missions,

taking place during Obama´s

rule as President.

Two foreign aid workers

kidnapped in Somalia three

months ago have been freed

in a rare US military raid.

US officials have confirmed

that elite US Navy Seals were

dropped into Somalia to carry

out the overnight operation

which resulted in a shoot out.

The two hostages were freed

uninjured, although nine of

their captors are said to have

been killed.

The hostages , a US woman

and a Danish man ,were seized

on 25 October 2011.

No casualties have been

reported among US forces.

The unit involved was the elite

Seal Team Six, which killed

Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan

last May, although the same

personnel were not

necessarily involved.

Washington said the first hint

of the successful operation

appeared to come from

President Obama himself,

as he prepared to give the

State of the Union address,

he turned to his Defence

Secretary Leon Panetta

and said "Good job tonight."

In contradiction to former

President Bush, who loved

to publicly talk of capturing

OBL this president delivered

without much talk.

US congress desert US anti-piracy bill

Eight US lawmakers have withdrawn

their support for anti-piracy laws, after

"blackout" protests on thousands of

internet sites.

Two of the bill's co-sponsors,

Marco Rubio from Florida and Roy Blunt

from Missouri, are among those

backing away.

Online encyclopedia Wikipedia and

blog service WordPress are among

the highest profile sites to block

their content.

The Motion Picture Association of

America (MPAA) has branded the

protests as "irresponsible" and

a "stunt".

While this blog calls MPAA ,

"dirty profiteers" who take of all

the worlds copyrights for them selfs

while many artists in China or Indian

and other places don't get a dime

from MPAA !

What makes one org think they can

regulate the worlds online

freedom ?

If MPAA would share the rights

fairly with Asian and African

and other parts of the world

there would be no piracy at all !

This as the sum divided between

individuals seeing films in the

entire world is so hugh, that any

films rights would be some cents

instead of tens of dollars now,

per person.

So for fairness sake

Costa Concordia disasters shameful Captain

The most shameful Captain

of all times what did he do after

the Cruise Ship ran aground

with 4.229 passengers onboard ?

Saturday morning (24h later) one day after the boat

had run aground.

Ansa news agency reports that a taxi driver

says he took the captain to a hotel on

Saturday morning,after the ship had crashed,

the captain had asked only where he could

buy some socks.

"He looked like a beaten dog, cold and

scared," the taxi driver said…

men women and children he left behind to die

and to swim in icy waters .

Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera has posted

a recording of a radio conversation on the day of

the Costa Concordia disaster

between Francesco Schettino, captain of the

stricken ship, and Gregorio de Falco of the

Italian coastguard in Livorno.

It reveals how Mr De Falco repeatedly asked

Capt Schettino to return to the ship.

(Translation into English by the BBC)

Gregorio De Falco: "Hello. Hello."
Francesco Schettino: "Good evening, captain."
De Falco: "Hello, I'm de Falco, from Livorno.

I am speaking with the commander?"

Schettino: "I'm Commander Schettino."
De Falco: "Listen Schettino, there are people trapped

aboard, you go with your lifeboat under the prow of the

ship on the port side and you go aboard the ship using

the rope ladder. You go aboard and you tell me how

many people there are. Is it clear? I'm recording this

conversation, Commander Schettino."

Schettino: "So, I'll tell you something..."

De Falco: "Speak louder."

Schettino: "Now, I'm in front of..."

De Falco: "Commander, speak louder, take the

microphone and speak loud. Is that clear?"

Schettino: "Commander, right now the ship is skewed."
De Falco: "Understood. Listen there are people

going down from the prow using the rope ladder;

you take that rope ladder on the opposite side,

you go aboard and you tell me the number of

people and what they have on board. Is that clear?

You tell me whether there are children, women

or people needing assistance. And you tell me the

number of each of these categories. Is that clear?

Schettino, maybe you saved yourself from the sea,

but I'll make you pay for sure. Go aboard."

Schettino: "Commander, please?"

De Falco: "Please, now you go aboard."

Schettino: "I am on the life boat, under the ship, I

haven't gone anywhere, I'm here."

De Falco: "What are you doing, commander?"

Schettino: "I'm here to coordinate rescues."

De Falco: "What are you coordinating there? Go on

board and coordinate rescues from on board.

Do you refuse?"

Schettino: "No, no I'm not refusing."

De Falco: "You're refusing to go aboard,

commander, tell me why you're not going."

Schettino: "I'm not going because there is another

lifeboat stopped there."

De Falco: "Go aboard: it's an order. You have no

evaluation to make, you declared abandon ship,

now I give orders: go aboard. Is it clear?"

Schettino: "Commander I'm going aboard."

De Falco: "Call me from aboard, my rescuer is

there at the prow of the ship. There are already

dead bodies, Schettino."

Schettino: "How many dead bodies?"

De Falco: "I do not know. One for sure. You have

to tell me how many."

Schettino: "Do you realise that it's dark here and

we can't see a thing?"

De Falco: "And what, do you want to go

home, Schettino?

It's dark, so you want to go home...?

Go on the prow of the ship, using the rope ladder

and tell me what can be done, how many people

there are and what are their needs. Do it now."

Schettino: "Here there is also the vice commander.

I'm together with him."

De Falco: "Then go aboard together. Together.

What's his name?"

Schettino: "Dimitri."
De Falco: "Dimitri what? You and your vice go aboard.

Now, is it clear?"

Schettino: "Commander, I want to go aboard, but

here there is the other lifeboat, there are other rescuers

who stopped. Now I called other rescuers."

De Falco: "You've been telling me this for one hour.

Go aboard. Go aboard. And you tell me right away how

many people there are."

Schettino: "Ok commander."
De Falco: "Go, quickly."

The captain appears to refuse, replying first

that there are rescuers already on board, and

then that it is dark and difficult to see.

Coastguards believe he never went back to

the ship !

He was arrested on the island shortly afterwards.

The captain is under house arrest on suspicion

of multiple manslaughter. Prosecutors have also

accused him of fleeing the ship before evacuation

was complete.

Mormons promote no sex before marriage

and drinks no tea coffee or coke

or alcohol....and allegedly wear special

the person who will bring a solution to the

So imagine Mitt on a state visit repeating

sorry I cant I´m a Mormon, to his hosts

all over the world….and then start telling

( I can say that as I have personally never

met a Mormon who don't preach and try to

convert me….)

Iran warns Gulf Arabs

Saudi Arabia in recent days....

This weeks Iranian threat:

Iran warned Gulf Arab neighbours

they would suffer consequences if

they raised oil output to replace

Iranian crude facing an

international ban.

Signs of Tehran's deepening isolation over

its refusal to halt nuclear activity that could

yield atomic bombs, China's premier was in

Saudi Arabia on Sunday probing for greater

access to its huge oil and gas reserves.

EU will most likely soon ban oil imports

from Iran.

Major importers of Iranian oil embargo to cut

lifeblood of Iran's economy because of fears

this would send oil prices rocketing.

This comes at a time amidst debt and deficit

crises and high unemployment…..

Strong argument :U.N. watchdog report saying

Iran appeared to have worked on designing

an atom bomb.

(Facts according to many, intelligence agencies)

U.S. latest new law signed by President

Barack Obama on New Year's Eve would

freeze out of the U.S. financial system "any

institution dealing with Iran's central bank" ,

which processes its oil revenues.

If fully applied, the law would make it

impossible for most countries to

buy Iranian oil.

Washington is offering waivers to countries

to let them keep buying Iranian oil for now…

However US is demanding they gradually

cut their imports with Iran.

Leaders from some of the Asian countries

that buy the most Iranian oil have begun

touring the Middle East to secure

alternative supply lines from Arab states.

European buyers suggest they will also

lean more heavily on Arab oil producers

if and when ,should an EU ban come

into effect.

Facing the sound of their own violins,

Iran's hardline Islamic clerical elite has

lashed back by threatening to block the

main Middle East oil shipping route.

Since the New Year, Tehran also began

to enrich uranium in an underground

bunker and sentenced an Iranian-

American citizen to death on alleged

espionage charges….

Iranian OPEC Governor Mohammad

Ali Khatibi said Tehran would regard

as an unfriendly act any move by

neighbouring Gulf Arab oil exporters

to make up for Iranian crude.

"If (they) give the green light to

replacing Iran's oil these countries

would be the main culprits for whatever

happens in the region, including the

Strait of Hormuz," Khatibi told the

Sharq daily newspaper, referring to

the narrow sea channel through

which a third of the world's oil

tanker traffic passes.

Our Arab neighbour countries

should not cooperate with these

U.S. and European adventurers...

These measures will not

be perceived as friendly,he said.

Iran's navy commander Habibollah

Sayyari said Tehran could exert

control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States, whose warships

patrol the region, says it will not

tolerate any attempt to disrupt

shipping through the strait.

Military experts say Iran could not

challenge the huge U.S.led fleet

that guards the strait for long, but

its threats raise the risk of

miscalculation that could flare

into a clash.

The United States and Israel

postponed military exercises

scheduled to take place in coming

weeks to later in the year.

Officials in both countries denied

the postponement was connected

with the increasing tension

over Iran.

Iran's foreign ministry said on

Sunday it had received a letter

from Washington about the Strait

of Hormuz and there was no decision

yet on whether to reply.

A ministry spokesman did not

divulge the contents of the letter.

Tehran had said on Saturday it had

written to Washington with "alleged"

evidence the CIA was involved in

the assassination of a nuclear

scientist, blown up by a bomb

attached to his car last week,

the latest of several such killings.

Anything remotely resembling a

proof would be a hugh surprise

to most "free media" in the world

That said ,back to reality:

Obama has said he is determined

to deny Tehran the means to

develop an atom bomb.

His aides cast their sanctions strategy as

a bid to work collaboratively with foreign

powers and win over states that import

Iranian oil "without shocking

energy markets".

Iranian scientist killed

A nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan,

an academic who also worked at the Natanz

uranium enrichment facility, and another

unidentified person were killed in the attack.

The blast happened after a motorcyclist stuck

an apparent bomb to the car.

It comes on top of a sophisticated cyber

sabotage programme and two mysterious

explosions at Iranian military bases, one

of which in November killed the general

known as 'the godfather' of Iran's

ballistic missile programme.

No-one is claiming responsibility for these

attacks but Iran blames its longstanding enemy,

Israel, and occasionally the US.

President Ahmadinejad insists that Iran's

nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes.

However ....

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has also issued a number

of statements claiming The Holocaust as is

commonly accepted is "a myth",and "a lie"

His words have been publicly repudiated

US Navi rescues Iranians in need a second time this week

A US ship has picked up Iranians in trouble

at sea,in the second such rescue in less

than a week.

US Coast Guard cutter Monomoy rescued six Iranian

mariners after their vessel broke down in the Gulf.

One of the six had suffered burns and is receiving

treatment, Pentagon spokesman George Little

told reporters.

In the latest incident, the six Iranians were some

50 miles (90km) south-east of the Iraqi port of

Umm Qasr when they got into trouble early on

Tuesday, Mr Little said.

The crew used flares and flashlights to hail the

passing Monomoy. The vessel's master indicated

"that the engine room was flooding and

[the ship was] not seaworthy", Mr Little added.

The Pentagon said the Iranian mariners would

be repatriated,

The US Navy rescued 13 Iranian fishermen last

Thursday after they were captured by

Somali pirates.

Both incidents come at a time of heightened

tensions between Washington and Tehran.

sentenced to death by a court in Tehran

Amir Mirzai Hekmati was "sentenced to death for

co-operating with a hostile nation, membership of

the CIA and trying to implicate Iran in terrorism,"

official Fars news agency said.

The sentence comes at a time of fresh tensions

between Iran and the West over Tehran's

nuclear programme.

The US said that, if true, it strongly condemned

the verdict.

Persona Non Grata

The United States has declared

Venezuela's consul general in

Miami persona non grata

and said she must leave the

country by Tuesday.

The diplomat, Livia Acosta Noguera, is

alleged to have discussed possible cyber-

attacks on the US while based at the

Venezuelan embassy in

Mexico in 2008.

The US state department did not

comment on the reason for the

expulsion.

A spokesman said the decision was

taken in accordance with Article 23

of the ViennaConvention on

Consular Relations.

Livia Acosta Noguera

Four US members of Congress had written

to the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

in December raising concerns about

the diplomat.

The letter said that according to

a documentary broadcast on the

Spanish-language network

Univision last month, Ms Acosta

Noguera had discussed attacking

the US government's computer

systems with diplomats from the

Iranian and Cuban embassies

and students posing as extremists,

while she was vice secretary at

Caracas's embassy

in Mexico.

The congressmen asked the state

department to investigate the claims,

and if it found them to be true, "declare

her a persona non grata and require

her immediate departure from

the United States".

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez made

no reference to the expulsion in his weekly

broadcast, Alo Presidente

However he did accuse Washington of

"inventing" plots by Iran to attack the US

with help from Cuba, Nicaragua and

Venezuela.

Jamaica Intends to become a republic

Jamaica's new Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller,

has said she intends to make the island republic,

removing Queen Elizabeth as the head of state.

In her inaugural address, Ms Simpson Miller said

the time had come for Jamaica to break with the

British monarchy and have its own president.

The announcement comes ahead of celebrations

to mark 50 years of Jamaican independence

from Britain.

Israel : Will retaliate after credit cards are hacked

Israel reported on Saturday that it will

respond to cyber-attacks in the same way

it responds to violent "terrorist" acts, by

striking back with force against hackers

who threaten the State of Israel.

The message from Deputy Foreign

Minister Dany Ayalon came after a

self-defined "Saudi hacker" from a

cabal known as "group-xp" published

details of more than 6,000 Israeli

credit cards online.

And with unconfirmed reports also

published 400.000 cards

earlier this week.

"It is necessary to send a message to

everyone who attacks or tries to attack

Israel, including in cyberspace,"

Ayalon said in quotes published widely

in Israeli media.

Hackers stand warned, he said, "that

they are putting themselves in danger

and that they will not benefit from any

immunity against reprisal actions

from Israel."

Almost immediately after the discovery

an Israeli computer expert declared the

hacker's true identity to be 19-year-old

Mexican waiter Omar Habib, the Israeli

website Ynet claimed the real hacker

contacted them via email to mock

the false identification.

“If a stupid student thinks he can

find me (within) 8 hours of work,

what will Mossad do?

But I'm still here and no one can find

me, make sure, no worries,” said the

self-proclaimed Saudi hacker 0xOmar

of “group-XP.”

The enthusiast promised to return,

tapping into military contractors and

the Supervisory Control and Data

Acquisition systems.

He says his activities are “payback”

for Israel’s “genocide” and occupation

of Palestine lands, according to Ynet.

Earlier this week, 0xOmar messaged

through Israeli websites that he and

“his greatest Saudi Arabian hacker

team” had posted details of over

400,000 Israeli cards online.

However …

Security checks revealed some

20,000 of them were valid cards.

In addition to credit cards details,

which included email addresses,

the hacker planted malware into

the exposing files.

Israel says the hacking team is

taking good precautions in order

to avoid being caught quickly.

Tel Aviv is considering turning to

Interpol to catch them.

An aide to Mr Ayalon said Israel

was aware of the report 0xOmar

may be in Mexico, but had not yet

requested help from the Mexican

authorities.

Thats a statement that should make

Omar Habib or what ever his name

is very very worried

indeed.

Iran's Fars news agency climes rescue staged like a Hollywood film

Iran has described the US Navy's rescue

of 13 Iranian fishermen held by Somali

pirates as a "humanitarian gesture".

And naturally foreign Minister Ali Akbar

Salehi said his country had also rescued

foreign sailors from pirates on occasion.

As statement that this blog could

not confirm, after some search

on the web….

Ali Akbar Salehi further felt the need of

pointing out that such acts did not affect

overall relations between countries.

According to a New York Times reporter

who boarded the captured Al Molai with

the US forces, the Iranian fishermen

expressed great gratitude for their rescue,

with one saying: "It is like you were sent

by God."

But Iran's Fars news agency

expressed suspicion about the

operation, saying it was

"like a Hollywood film"

which "seems to have been

pre-organised".

Such a statement tells a story about Iran

by itself and leaves out any need for this

blog to write any further....

Islamists attack Christians in Nigeria

To Nigerias Boko Haram westen education is sin...

Suspected Financier of Boko Haram and Serving Senator at

National Assembly Abuja, Senator Ali Ndume at Magistrate Court Abuja

Nigeria has been hit by a fresh wave

of violence un-mistakingly targeting

the country's Christians .

Over 17 people were killed in Mubi

in Adamawa state as gunmen opened

fire in atown hall where members

of the Christian group were meeting.

The Islamist Boko Haram group said

it had carried out the attack in Mubi

and another in Gombe on Thursday

night in which they killed at least

six people.

There were also reports of a deadly

attack in Adamawa's capital, Yola.

The group has staged numerous

attacks and in recent months ,on

Christmas Day, it carried out a

string of church bombings which

killed 37 people at one church

alone. Leaving the rest of the

victim numbers not even

reported by the media !

This recant escalation should

serve as a warning to all

Europeans or US national

security agencies.

After all more than 500 people

have been killed by the group

over the past year.

(no exact number was reported !)

Fact is, as long as there are no

protests by muslims leaders in

public this sort of attacks wont

stop, in contrary it will

escalate. The reactions will

naturally then be accordingly.

President Jonathan, who is a

Christian, has vowed to crack

down on the group but Christian

groups have accused him of

not doing enough to

protect them.

I was yesterday informed by Stratfor

that they received reports on mails to

clients of Stratford regarding its

founder G Friedman....

The report sounds very vague, so I

took a look at what else is reported

on the matter ....

And guess what, there was a lot they

could have said, but here one has

to turn to ABC news to find out

some sort of truth......

loyal receiver of information by

Stratfor each week,their info to

me regarding this,was not only

old but left out any data theft

I´d rather see a company

Stratfor credit card informations

have been used by the

hackers anonymous,

to make donations to red cross

and other charities...

Ironically anyone who has

bought any book on intel

by Stratfor ....is now

in the hands of the intel

nemesis.

And as for Stratfor security ...

I doubt any Intel providers

who fail to decrypt any customer

information, to be of much

U.S. Navy sailors from the USS Kidd

rescue13 Iranian fishermen being

held by pirates in the Arabian Sea,

the Pentagon says.

The 13 were picked up on Thursday

after a distress call was received

from an Iranian fishing vessel

which had been boarded by

pirates over a month ago.

The rescue comes days after

Iranian officials warned the US

to keep the carrier group

involved in the operation

out of the Gulf.

Earlier this week Iranian officials

had warned the carrier not

to the return to the region

The Iranians had been kept

in harsh conditions and are

thought to have been forced

to assist the pirates in their

operations, according to

the Pentagon.

The hostages "had been

through a lot", said Navy Criminal

Investigative Service agent

Josh Schminky.

"We went out of our way to treat

the fishing crew with kindness

and respect," he said.

Iran has successfully test-fired

a medium-range surface-to-air

missile during military exercises

in the Gulf, the official Iranian news

agency reports.

a Iranian naval commander, was

quoted saying: The missile was

equipped with the "latest technology"

and "intelligent systems".

Intelligent ?

Hardly diplomatically intelligent .

But this doesn't come as any

surprise to anyone, rather

the opposite.

This come at a time of increased

tensions between the West and Iran

over its nuclear ambitions, that

monitors doubt is as peaceful

as Iran claims.

Tehran reacted once again angrily

last week to reports that Western

nations were planning to impose

further sanctions targeting Iran's

oil and financial sectors.

This is rather typical but explains

the situation in a nutshell.

The U.S. Navy is the largest in

the world, its battle fleet tonnage is

greater than that of the next 13

largest navies combined.

So if iran want to do a bit of

muscle flexing then they need

to get some seriously bigger

muscles….

This said, Iranian situations

of nearly $30bn (£19.5bn) of fighter jets

to Saudi Arabia.

The US will send 84 Boeing F-15 jets

to its key Middle Eastern ally, and

upgrade 70 existing Saudi F-15s.

Finland : Patriot missiles, onboard China-bound ship

The Finnish authorities have impounded

an Isle of Man-flagged ship bound for

China with undeclared missiles and

explosives, officials say.

Police are questioning the crew of

the MS Thor Liberty after what were

described as 69 Patriot anti-missile

missiles were found aboard.

Interior Minister Paivi Rasanen said

the missiles were marked "fireworks".

The MS Thor Liberty had docked in

the Finnish port of Kotka after leaving

Germany last week.

Dock workers became suspicious

after finding explosives poorly stored

on open pallets, and the missiles

were then found in containers

marked "fireworks".

The managing director of the

ship's owner, Thorco Shipping,

expressed surprise.

Thomas Mikkelsen told AFP news

agency from Denmark that he was

unaware of the matter.

Strange...

Another company official, speaking

on condition of anonymity,

confirmed the ship had been

detained in Finland and said the

missiles could have been loaded

on to the vessel by mistake,

AFP adds.

Police did not confirm Finnish

media reports that the ship had

also been scheduled to stop in

South Korea, Reuters news

agency reports.

The MS Thor Liberty left port

in Emden, northern Germany,

on 13 December and docked

two days later in Kotka, southern

Finland, to pick up a cargo of

anchor chains, said Finnish

Customs spokesman

Petri Lounatmaa.

It was bound for the Chinese

port of Shanghai….

But strangely there was

no indication for whom the

military cargo was destined.

(How can the shipping firm

explain this ?)

Routine checks by Finland's

traffic safety authority revealed

a load of up to 160 tonnes of

improperly packed nitroguanidine,

a low-sensitivity explosive with

a high detonation speed.

"Actually in our investigation

at the moment, we have got

the information that we found

69 Patriot missiles on the ship

And ……

around 160 tonnes of

explosives".

Interior Minister Rasanen said

she had not heard of a

similar case.

"Of course, there are legal

transports of weapons or

defence material [through

Finland] but in this case the

cargo was marked as

containing fireworks,"

she told Finnish media.

"That is quite unusual."

Mr Lounatmaa said customs

officials and police had

launched a joint investigation

into a possible breach of

Finnish export and weapons

trading laws.

He said that the crew of about

32 were being questioned.

Patriot missiles, designed by

the US company Raytheon,

are supplied to "US and allied

forces", according to the

company's website.

South Korea is among states

which deploy them......

Arrest warrant for Iraq Vice-President

The Iraqi judicial committee has

issued an arrest warrant for the

mainly Shia Muslim country's

Sunni Muslim Vice-President,

Tariq al-Hashemi.

The warrant was issued under

"Article 4" of the, anti-terrorism

laws, interior ministry spokesman

Adel Daham said.

The decision came after arrested

bodyguards of Mr Hashemi

reportedly accused him of links

to terrorism.

"One bodyguard said he carried out

assassination attempts using

roadside bombs and guns with

silencers," CNN reported.

"He said the orders came from

the vice president and at times

through the director of

his office."

State-run television has

reportedly aired what it

says are confessions by

alleged terrorists linked

to Mr Hashemi.

Mr Hashemi has been banned

from leaving Iraq.He is currently

believed to be in Kurdistan,

a semi-autonomous enclave

in the north, Reuters adds.

The move comes the day

after US troops withdrew

from the country.

His comes also, only two

days, after the al-Iraqiya

parliamentary bloc, which

represents most of Iraq's

Sunni Muslim community,

withdrew from parliament.

They have accused the Shia

Behrouz Mina’i, chairman of the

National Foundation for Computer Games,

reported this week that Iranian game

designers are currently hard at work on

the video game Assault on Tel-Aviv

in response to Battlefield 3, a game

recently banned by the

Iranian authorities.

Mina’i said that Iran’s strategy is based

on “attack for attack”, and since the

United States is ruled by Israel and is

more concerned with an attack on

Tel-Aviv than on Washington,

Vaclav Havel, the Czech Republic's

first president after the Velvet Revolution

against communist rule, has died

at the age of 75.

It started in the late 70s...

When Vaclav Havel become

Czechoslovakia's best-known

dissident.

He helped found the Charter 77

movement for democratic change.

When communist rule unravelled

in late 1989, he was elected

president by the interim coalition

cabinet.

He resigned in 1992 after Slovak

nationalists successfully campaigned

for the break-up of Czechoslovakia.

He was elected first president

of the Czech Republic in January

1993, serving until 2003 when he

resigned as his health deteriorated.

US Defence Secretary Panetta visits Libya

US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta

US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta

has visited Libya's new government .

He said Libya needed to unite fractious

rebel groups, secure arms caches and

build democratic institutions.

The UN, US and UK had imposed

sanctions against former leader

Gaddafi's regime after it tried to

crush the uprising against him.

The uprising virtually shut Libya's

oil industry ,the world's eighth largest

.and exports only resumed

in September.

Officials say they expect crude

oil output to return to normal

levels of around 1.6m barrels

per day by the end of 2012.

"This will be a long and difficult

transition, but I am confident that

you will succeed," he told a joint

news conference with

PM Abdurrahim al-Keib.

Panetta´s short visit ,is the first

by a Pentagon chief to Libya.

It follows a UN decision on

Friday to lift sanctions on

Libya's central bank and

its investments subsidiary .

The move cleared the way

for Libya's new government

to gain control of tens of

billions of dollars frozen

overseas, which it needs

to pay public sector workers,

rebuild war-torn towns

and enhance its authority.

But Libya's competing

factions,are still a visible

presence on Libya's

streets two months

after Gaddafi's death.

Many of whom remain

heavily armed, will want

to get their share of

the money.

Mr Panetta said: he was

confident Libya's interim

authorities knew how to

bring them together.

Mr Keib said uniting the

rebel factions was a

serious issue, and that

programmes were being

designed to attract

"freedom fighters" to build

a better future for Libya

through opportunities other

than carrying arms.

Lets all hope that this is

true,as the alternative

looks pretty much like

Egypt today .
